EXPOSED CONCRETE

Exposed concrete is a decorative form of concrete where the aggregate (rock) is visible.  Its finish is achieved by spraying on a concrete retardant once the slab has been placed and finished.  This allows the concrete underneath to fully set while the surface remains relatively wet and can be easily removed.

We return the following day to wash the surface off with pressure washers.  This process removes approximately 3-5mm off the top of the slab, depending on which concrete mix you have chosen.  Utmost care is taken during this step to tape up and cover any surrounding areas including houses, sheds and fences as the washing off process can be quite messy.

Once the concrete is fully cured (which can take 2-4 weeks depending on weather conditions), we recommend sealing your exposed concrete with a high quality penetrating sealer (this comes in either a matte or semi-gloss finish).  This will help minimise discolouration and staining of the exposed aggregate concrete which can occur due to the weather and vehicle traffic.

Based on the steps involved in achieving this type of finish it is best to consult with a professional and reputable concrete company to make sure you receive a high quality result without any damage to surrounding areas.  Creative Concreting & Construction will be more than happy to discuss any of your decorative concreting needs.
